SLIDE’s mission is to impact the lives of youth of all backgrounds by providing unique and positive experiences that promote character development and life-enhancing values through skiing. SLIDE recruits youth through churches, schools, and local organizations. Through donations and support from the CCC the program is provided to the youth at no cost. The CCC provides them with everything they need to learn how to ski: lift tickets, lessons, equipment, clothing, and food (donated by Little General Subway).
This program strives to teach positive personal growth through the lifelong skills of skiing. Our organization believes in the potential value of individualized challenge sports that foster self-esteem, self-awareness, and encourage positive risk taking.
Skiing introduces unique developmental situations that may never otherwise present themselves. They may include:
Promoting greater self-esteem in youth athletes, both mentally and physically.
Encouraging youth to set personal goals and inspiring them to meet and overcome challenges.
Providing a fun, healthy environment for exercise.
As part of the SLIDE educational curriculum, the program teaches seven core values: Judgment, Patience, Courtesy, Respect, Confidence, Responsibility, and Perseverance. These values are reinforced and incorporated throughout the 8 week program at Winterplace Ski Resort including a weekend trip to Silver Creek at Snowshoe Mountain.
